Over half a million Afghans fled their homes in the first half of 2013 under threat by the Taliban. Many live as refugees in their own country. Afghan children, of whom 40 percent are undernourished, often receive schooling outdoors, and only weather permitting — like these pupils here in Jalalabad, near the Pakistani border. They work in a nearby brick factory.
